Dear Princess Sophia,

 Two decades old!!!

Someone told me once that being in your twenties is like way older than being in your teens, so I guess welcome to being at least a little bit old.  Don't worry, your advanced age isn't showing yet (besides in all the old man ways it has always manifested).

We are halfway done this whole Sophie in college thing, and while just like last year I am so proud of you and glad you get to have all these experiences, there is a part of me that is excited to know that you are planning to live back home at least for a little while after you graduate.  Its the silver lining of the housing crisis.

Your first semester this year was crazy busy between all your classes, your crew and performance work, and your efforts to save democracy.  I'm so proud of the hard work you put into things you feel are important, and I'm so impressed that you re-founded and became president of such an important club.  My generation had it easier in so many ways compared to all the challenges of today.  I'm so glad you are involved and making your voice heard.

I do hope we can do better at finding time this next semester for our weekly talks.  I know things just got crazy busy, and I never want our talks to be a burden for you, but I hope you know how important it is to me for us to keep developing our relationship so we can stay connected.  I'll even bribe you with food on occasion if it helps ;-)

I hope you have found joy over the past year, and that you are living in the moment while working towards the future.  Its often difficult to find the balance between the two, but doing so is critical.  I'm so glad we get to spend the day with you tomorrow!  I hope I always can find ways to bring you joy and love, just as you have always brought them to me.  I love you, kiddo.

Love always,

Daddy
