Birthday Parties

What a fun day! Sophie had a ball celebrating her birthday yesterday, and once all her friends left and we were settling in for the evening, she told me that this had been her favorite party yet. We had family over in the late morning, and Sophie had a great time visiting with everyone. It was nice having the family party first, because then Sophie wasn't too exhausted to enjoy everyone. At two, her friend party started and we ended up with eight kiddos. As I'd expected, the kids all thought the idea of a beach party in January was pretty silly. They came decked out in bathing suits and we passed out leis and sunglasses and other summer goodies. They had one small craft (coloring some wooden summer themed bookmarks we found), and we did a group activity of putting on temporary tattoos - but other than that and when we gathered for gifts and cake, they spent the whole time just playing together. There was lots of giggling and running and silliness, but they were all so well-behaved and having such fun.

Today we continued the birthday party trend and went to a bowling party for our neighbor, Rachel, who turned seven the day before Sophie's birthday. The kids all loved the bowling and it was kind of fun to have an entire weekend of celebrations. Of course, it's nice that the kids have tomorrow off for MLK Day, because I think they'll need the extra day to recover from all the fun!
