Mini vacation trip

Adam is on vacation this week, so we had decided to take a trip to Story Land yesterday. We booked a night in a hotel and were going to make a big adventure of it. Unfortunately, we had mixed up the dates when we checked their calendar and they aren't open during the week yet. Oops. We didn't realize our mistake until we literally pulled into the parking lot. Imagine the kids' disappointment.  What a parent fail!  Adam and I felt horrible, but Sophie and Ben took it surprisingly well. They know that we will take them back as soon as we can, and they were excited enough about staying in a hotel to distract them a bit.

We ended up having a great time despite the change in plans. The hotel we chose for location and cost ended up being perfect for the kids. There were a couple of year-round outdoor pools, including a kiddie pool with a fountain that was full-size but just deep enough for wading. There was also a great playground, and since it was a Monday-Tuesday trip, we were the only ones there every time we went. The hotel also has a nightly movie showing in a special theater room they have decked out with big leather couches - and wouldn't you know they were showing a kids movie that night. Perfect. We spent time swimming, played on the playground, went out to dinner, saw the movie, then took a little drive for ice cream cones. In the morning, we let the kids decide where we would have breakfast - they chose the buffet in the hotel - then hit up the playground once more before checking out and heading off for a little hike up to see some waterfalls at Diana's Baths. It ended up being a great little trip.
