Mother's Day Celebration

Last night was the Mother's Day celebration at Ben's preschool. All the kids performed songs for the moms, and Ben was even included in a little group of three who started off "You Are My Sunshine" with a solo verse before the rest of the preschoolers joined in. It was adorable, and I could tell how proud he was of how hard he worked.

The kids also presented letters they wrote for their mothers. Here is Ben's:

My Mom by Ben

My mom's real name is Aimee, but I call her Mama. She has pretty blue eyes. I look like my Dad and Sophie looks like my mom. My mom is as old as Ms. Terri, but younger than my dad. When I'm sick my mom gives me water with honey in it and hugs me. She also hugs me when I get hurt. I love her to Jupiter, around 10 million trillion times, and back. That's a lot. She is so nice to me. She cooks us dinner and my favorite is mac and cheese. She takes good care of me and my family. We like to watch TV together and snuggle. At bedtime she always kisses me good night and it makes me feel good. I have the best mom ever! She likes to sing and I think she sings really good, but my dad doesn't sing good. She also likes to tickle me because I'm ticklish."

The kids also all contributed a special recipe to a Mother's Day Cookbook that their teacher put together for everyone. It is adorable to see how the kids thing certain things are made, and which "recipe" they each decided to include. There was quite a variety - from lasagna to cheerios. So cute. Here is Ben's recipe:

Squash with Maple Syrup on it

To make squash with maple syrup on it you need to plant some squash seeds. Go to a store and buy some seeds. Plants the seeds in your garden. The squash will take about three weeks to grow. Pick the squash out of the garden when it's done growing. It's done growing when it's big. Cut the squash with a sharp knife. A grown-up should do the cutting because a kid would cut themselves. Pour the cut up squash into a pot. Cook the squash in the oven. Set the oven to like 21 degrees hot. Let the squash cook about three minutes. It's ready to come out of the oven when it's all squishy. When it's all done have a grown-up put on some oven gloves and take the pot out of the oven. Mash the squash up with a potato masher. When you are ready to eat the squash use a spoon to take it out of the pot and put it on a plate. Add a small bottle the size of your hand to the squash. That's how I like it.
