This summer, we decided our big outdoor project was going to be building a swing set for the kiddos. We thought long and hard and did a lot of shopping around before finally deciding on the design we wanted to build. We wanted to be sure that the set had monkey bars, since that is one of Sophie's favorite playground fixtures, and a lot of the home sets don't come with them - or if they do, they are a part of the swing area so the kids can only do one or the other at a time. We wanted to be sure that there were separate swing and monkey bar areas. We also chose a set that had a small rock wall area instead of a ladder, because the kids really love to climb.
We bought all of our materials and started building at the beginning of the month. We finished the actual building in just a few days, but then had to wait a little while to get a delivery of wood chips to spread under the area. We just finished that, and now the project is officially finished.
The kids have been having so much fun and I am so glad we decided to build this for them. We did debate a little bit about it, since we don't have a huge yard and because of the expense, but it came down to the fact that they both love playgrounds so much - and we knew it would be such a huge treat for them to have this kind of swing set right at their own house. They have been using it so much, it is definitely proving to be a worthy investment. I love watching them and seeing how much they are enjoying it. Hopefully it's something that they will continue to love for many years to come!
