We spent this weekend kicking off the kids first full week of summer vacation and Adam's first week-long vacation of the year. We packed up the kids and enough gear to last a family of ten for a month, and headed to Freeport to camp with friends. It ended up being rainy and cold the first night and first half of the second day, but we ended up with some really nice, although unseasonably chilly, weather for the last night and morning. The kids really enjoyed camping and had a blast spending time with our friends, Katy and Dave. We did a lot of sitting around the campfire and playing cards and board games, but there were also several spirited games of hide and seek. Despite the weather, we all had fun and I was so glad the kids had as much fun as they did.
This was our first real camping trip as a family. We stayed with Adam's parents in a tent on their site for a night or two with Sophie when I was pregnant with Ben, and again when Ben was an infant, but this was our first trip on our own with the kids. There's a lot that goes into the packing and planning, but now that we've done it once, I know it will go more smoothly in the future - and we're looking forward to going again soon!
