Whew! What a wonderful holiday!
We've had a few busy days, but they have been filled with fun. We spent Christmas Eve at home until mid-afternoon, when we went to my mom's to celebrate with her, Jeff, Brianna, Tara, Grammy and Cathy. It was a lovely evening, with lots of laughs, and we went home loaded up with gifts. The kids are always a little spoiled at this time of year, with so many people who love them.
On Christmas morning, we decided for the first year that we were going to stay home. When the kids were younger, it wasn't so bad to pack them up first thing - but they're older now and want to be able to stay in their pjs for a bit and play with their new toys. I did miss being at my mom's on Christmas morning for the first time, but it was nice to be able to relax and enjoy the morning with our little family, too. Sophia got a Nintendo DSi and a game to go with it from Santa Claus, and Ben got some new Geotrax sets - both of the things they had asked for. They were both so excited and played until it was time to go to Grandpa Ben's for the afternoon.
We spent a leisurely afternoon at my dad's opening gifts, playing, and eating dinner. The kids loved playing with their cousin, Rigel, as always and were passed out in the car before we got to the Maine border.
Today we got up and spent the morning playing some more. Then Adam's parents stopped by for a Christmas visit. It really was nice to spread the holiday out a bit and feel like we had time to share with each part of our family, rather than rushing to fit it all in. It was really like having three days of Christmas - and you can't beat that! Sophie and Ben both got Lego sets from Nana and Grandpa and had to put them together right away. Legos have been the big hit of this holiday (among many other great things - they really have played with everything) and we've all had fun building together as a family.
Next weekend we will get together with Adam's siblings and their families, but for now Christmas is over and we're going to hang out and enjoy our time together - and play with these mountains of new toys!
