Back to school

Sophie went back to school this morning. She had been excited about it all weekend, but when drop-off time came she was a little nervous. She seemed shy about all of the attention and I could tell she was nervous about getting too tired, feeling sore, or not being able to do all the things the other kids could do. We assured her, along with her teacher, that she only needed to stay as long as she was comfortable. She made it until the last hour, then asked her teacher to call me. She wasn't sad or anything, she was just tired and ready to come home. I think she did great for her first day back, and everyone was impressed with her coming back so soon.

It really is good for her to get back into her routine, though, and the doctors really encouraged anything that will get her up and moving. Sure, she tires more easily right now, but she can move at her own pace and be active. After talking with her today, she seemed much more excited about going back on Wednesday. I think the initial shyness has worn off a bit, and of course it doesn't hurt that Wednesday is St. Patrick's Day and there is a little party happening at school. We'll see how she's feeling that morning, but right now she says she wants to go... and there's no school on Friday, so she'll have a nice long break before the next school day.
