Thriving

Sophia is doing so well in school. She loves going each and every day, and gets off the bus each afternoon gushing with stories about her day. It's awesome. 

Right now in her class, they are working on meeting certain goals for the first trimester. When a student achieves a goal, their name goes on the poster for that particular goal and they get to bring a special certificate home. In her weekly news folder that is sent home each weekend, Sophie brought home three certificates this week. In the newsletter, the teacher recognized six students for meeting a goal. Sophie is awfully proud of herself that she's already gotten three. The goals she's met so far are: counting to 50 (she got to 104), coming to meeting times quietly and ready to learn, and behaving quietly and peacefully during rest time. 

She's also told me all about this system where pictures of every student are kept in a big green bin. If the student is misbehaving and needs to be spoken to a number of times, their picture is moved to a red bin. From there, the student will lose privileges like recess time. Sophie is very proud that she's never been moved out of the green bin and told me that she wants to go the entire year without ever being moved to the red bin. 

She is also making new friends and seems to be playing with a diverse group of old and new friends, from a variety of different classes, on the playground. I like that she has so many people to play with and is participating in a lot of different games and activities.
