Hospital, day 9

Today was pretty uneventful, and I can't complain about that. I spent most of the day at home (which I can complain about), but Adam and Sophie stayed busy playing.

At first, the nurses held off on Sophie's breakfast because they weren't sure if she would be having her PICC line put in, and because of the sedation she can't eat beforehand. It turned out that they weren't able to fit her into the schedule for today, so she'll be having the PICC put in tomorrow around noon. Today she was able to eat regularly, but tomorrow she'll have to wait even longer. Poor girl. Although she can eat clear liquids until 8am tomorrow, so we'll make sure she gets a popsicle and some juice or something when she first wakes up.

For the rest of the morning, Adam and Sophie watched movies for a bit. Sophie was complaining that her belly hurt and she didn't want to get up. She's had some pain in her belly occasionally for a few days now... the surgeon mentioned that it might be some irritation from where the tube had been. It seems to have gotten better over the course of today, so that's good.

After the movies, Adam convinced Sophie to get up and play, so they went down to the atrium and Sophie drove around some more on one of the tricycles. Then they had lunch, Sophie rested for a bit and then they got back up to play some more. I got back to the hospital, after a lot of much needed sleeping most of the day, around 4pm. We all went back down to the atrium, and it was time for Sophie to eat her dinner. Then a little bit more playing until 6pm when it was time to come back for her antibiotics.

The antibiotics were being administered in the night, but the head doctor in charge ordered that they be moved a little earlier today, and then a little earlier tomorrow, too, so we'll have a nice daytime schedule for when she gets home. Tonight was her last time using her regular IV, though, since tomorrow she gets the PICC line and will get her antibiotics that way... so the nurse told Sophie that she would be able to have the IV removed this evening and sleep with absolutely no needles in. Sophie was pretty excited about that. Sophie helped the nurse remove all the tape (she's wanted to be very involved and asks to help anytime she can).

By the time all of the IV stuff was taken care of, it was 8pm and Sophie was pretty pooped. We're now all watching Sleeping Beauty together, and likely Sophie will be asleep pretty soon.
